Shaw Media acquired the NewsTribune in September 2019, with plans to continue the proud tradition of family newspaper ownership serving the community.
The company began with B.F. Shaw, who started publishing The Telegraph in Dixon in 1851. We are proud to be the third-oldest continuously owned and operated family newspaper company in the nation.
Today, Shaw Media publishes more than 150 daily, weekly and specialty titles, covering 15 counties across Northern Illinois. The company's media holdings also include Friday Night Drive, a website devoted to Illinois high school football; Pro Football Weekly; a video production unit and Shaw Media Marketing, a digital marketing services division.
Shaw's daily newspaper holdings include La Salle County's other 5-day-a-week newspaper, The Times of Ottawa, as well as Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake, The Herald-News in Joliet, Daily Chronicle in DeKalb, the Telegraph in Dixon and the Daily Gazette in Sterling.
The paper was acquired from the Miller family, under whose ownership the paper served the community for 70 years.
The NewsTribune was created in the 1940s. In 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Miller, Jr., purchased the Peru News-Herald. They purchased the LaSalle Post-Tribune not long after and merged the two newspapers into the Daily News-Tribune.
