The Hall Township Food Pantry in Spring Valley spent most of Wednesday distributing ready-to-go Thanksgiving packages to those in need.
The food pantry hosted two Thanksgiving distribution events, with one from 9 a.m. to noon and the other from 4-7 p.m.
The packages were sponsored and donated by the community and included cards from the sponsors that helped make the event possible.
Items included in the Thanksgiving packages were produce, dressing, gravy, stuffing, coffee, chips, bread, rolls, pies, cool whip, butter, cinnamon rolls, cheese, ice cream and turkey or chicken, among other items.
The events took place outside the pantry’s building located at 500 North Terry St. Cars lined up down the street as volunteers directed traffic.
When it was time, they sent cars up to designated stalls as volunteers helped load the turkey day-themed food into the back of the vehicles.
In just the morning event, the pantry had 193 families participate over the three hours.
Volunteers said the morning distribution went incredibly smooth, as most cars pulled in and out very quickly to receive their packages.
The event was able to run effectively thanks to the work of the food pantry and their volunteers. The contactless distribution helped deliver Thanksgiving dinners for families around the Illinois Valley.
