Following the season’s first snowfall, the city of Peru has announced its inaugural Peru Hometown Christmas: Light Up the Night!
The event is set to kick off at 5 p.m. Dec. 5 in Washington Park. The first event will be a Light Up Christmas Parade starting and ending at the park.
The parade will include floats and marchers with participants lining up for the festivities beginning at 4 p.m.
Those wishing to participate in the parade must submit a completed and signed parade application by Nov. 20.
Following the parade, festivities will continue at Washington Park with a Light Up the Park event. All festivities will conclude by 8 p.m.
The event will include a tree lighting ceremony, announcement of the best decorated float, visits and photos with Santa, free hot cocoa and hot apple cider, various family friendly activities and gifts for children.
Business owners are asked to participate in this event by decorating their storefront windows. Participants are encouraged to be as creative as they would like.
Participating businesses will be featured on the city’s Facebook page to encourage everyone to visit and check out the local storefronts.
