In September, Starved Rock Media purchased a tree for a Granville park in memory of Steve Volger, one of the media company's former owners.

The weeping purple beech is planted in Granville's Veteran's Memorial Park, just a couple of blocks away from Steve's former home.

Vogler was the long-time chief engineer for WLPO, WAJK and WLWF. He and station employee John Spencer partnered last year to form Starved Rock Media to purchase the stations from La Salle County Broadcasting.

Steve died from cancer Oct. 1, 2019.

Spencer felt the tree was the perfect living tribute to honor Steve for his dedication and generosity.

Labor for the tree planting was donated by Wilson Landscaping Company & Nursery.
