Authorities have confirmed Rosie, the Great Dane, who went missing after Friday's multi-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 80, was found dead along U.S. 6 by a police officer Tuesday.
Several animal groups posted information about her missing on social media and Utica firefighters assisted with a search Saturday of the area.
The non-profit group Spay It Forward, out of Marseilles, offered to pay for cremation services for Rosie, but the crematorium donated its service. Instead, Spay It Forward was able to donate toward cremation services for a cat that had been killed on the side of the road and recovered by Fox Valley Veterinary Hospital in Ottawa. They named the cat "Rosie" in the Great Dane's honor.
Spay It Forward is helping Rosie's family with the purchase of a dignity box. Go to Spay It Forward's Facebook page for information on donating.
