Regular garbage and recycling will continue as usual in La Salle. But temporarily, waste collector Republic Services will stop picking up large items and yard waste bags.
Republic Services will make the temporary change starting Tuesday, March 31, said Mayor Jeff Grove.
When it comes to yard waste, La Salle residents still can utilize the city's drop off location to take yard waste: Turn left off of U.S. 6 (when heading east) onto Troy Grove Blacktop, then take a quick left toward the Rockwell Cemetery and follow the road to the drop off.
"Residents will just have to hold off on disposing of large items," said Grove, mentioning that is unfortunate because people are at home now, using their time to organize closets, garages.
The reason for the temporary stop of the large items and yard waste is because Republic normally has to send extra drivers in to get the large items and the yard waste bags, Grove said. By making this change, Republic Services is decreasing the chance for their drivers to potentially be exposed to the coronavirus.
