"Were off to see the Wizard."
Thirty years ago this weekend the Mendota Community Theatre presented "The Wizard of Oz." The production was directed by Fred Bell of Mendota. Bell helped paint murals and built portions of the set. The play was based on the movie. Dana Dawson, who is now the principal at Ladd Grade School played Dorothy in the production. "The first and last scene was black and white," said Dawson. "It was a challenge to change into different wordrobe changes but we had a lot of fun." Dawson's mother Barb Holloway played the Wicked Witch. Dawson's dog Tasha also stared as "Toto" in the classic play. "We had to spray her with special gray chalk during the production," said Dawson.
The Mendota Community Theatre is compromised of individuals who are interested in and committed to the fine art of theatrical performance in all of its various forms. MCT strives to provide high quality entertainment.
