During his Emergency Management Agency Committee report Tuesday, Chairman Derek Whited told the Bureau County Board there was an Iranian hack on the county’s website.
EMA Director Keenan Campbell was alerted by the state of Illinois of the attack.
Whited said the hack was exploiting an old code and was caught by the website’s firewall.
Campbell assured the attack was not a breach of the county courthouse, but rather a breach of the zoning area on the county’s website.
“They got it quickly and fixed the breach. We’re also working on a cyber security plan for our employees in the county and that will be forthcoming,” Campbell said.
