La Salle awarded $500,000 grant for sewer separation

La Salle city council members left Monday’s meeting smiling.

“Late this afternoon, I found out that a grant that Brian (Brown) and I applied for $500,000 for the sewer separation project through the CDBG grant — we were awarded the $500,000,” said Katherine Koyak, city economic development director about her and city engineer Brian Brown.

The money comes from the Community Development Block Grant program through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

La Salle will contribute $279,220 toward this grant to separate storm and sanitary sewer lines from a combined system on the east side of town.

In other news:

-The city of La Salle council members approved the financial audit report for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2019. City finance director John Duncan IV said there will be a public presentation in the near future on the audit.

-Mayor Jeff Grove thanked the public works department for their work and preparation in regard to the winter storm the Illinois Valley was fearful of over the weekend.

-Council members accepted the resignation of Jeanette Hicks from the La Salle library board effective April 30, 2020. “I would like to recognize and thank Jeanette Hicks,” said Grove.
