If you’re giving food to feral cats, in La Salle, then please stop.
Mayor Jeff Grove on Monday inquired about whether the city has the means to prohibit residents from feeding strays that create problems for neighborhoods and the city as a whole.
City attorney Jim McPhedran reminded residents that the number of cats and dogs one can own is regulated by ordinance, but expressed doubts about being able to regulate the feedings of strays.
“That would not be easy to restrict,” he said.
The city is, however, looking seriously into regulating motorized bicycles. Grove and several aldermen expressed concern with cyclists not obeying traffic laws and at speeds that compound the risks to riders and other motorists.
“That’s not a problem that’s unique to La Salle,” McPhedran said, pledging to inquire of the Illinois Municipal League what options that city has.
