LOSTANT — A car went off Interstate 39, traveled in the median and over an embankment, plunging into a creek Saturday afternoon just northwest of Lostant.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene shortly after the call went out at 2:20 p.m. and found a woman in the car, with water entering the interior around the floor level.

“The female driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported by Lostant Ambulance to IVCH hospital in Peru and was later transferred to a Rockford hospital with serious injuries,” according to a Lostant Fire Department press release.

Illinois State Police District 17 is handling the accident investigation. Lostant Police Department also responded.
