Best in the Hy-Vee biz

Ashley Lock isn’t just good at her job. She’s the best in Hy-Vee’s eight-state region. The Peru Hy-Vee floral manager, pictured here creating an arrangement at the Peru store, placed first in the Hy-Vee Extreme Cake and Floral Challenge finals on Nov. 9 in Des Moines, Iowa. Lock also earned the Designer’s Choice and Judge’s Choice awards and a $3,000 prize. “It was really awesome. I was really humbled and grateful to win first,” Lock said. Lock competed against 16 other florists in the finals after earning second place in a regional competition in September that earned her the trip to Des Moines. In the competition, florists had to make five arrangements in five categories: baby, sympathy, anniversary, wedding and homecoming.
