The Mendota Junior League softball team has advanced to the state semifinals in Orion.
Mendota went 3-1 during pool play over the weekend.
On Saturday, Mendota rolled to a 15-1 victory over District 9 before losing 6-5 to District 15.
Mendota beat District 13 13-1 and edged District 17 5-4 on Sunday.
The quarterfinals are tonight but Mendota won via forfeit. Mendota was scheduled to play District 13 again.
Now, No. 2-seeded Mendota awaits the winner of tonight’s game between No. 3 District 15 and No. 6 District 9.
The semifinals are at 6 p.m. Tuesday with the championship game to follow.
Bi-County eliminated from state tournament
The Bi-County Little League softball team lost a pair of games over the weekend as it was ousted from the state tournament.
Bi-County lost 2-0 to Rock Falls on Friday before losing 12-2 to Pike County in an elimination game Saturday.
Peru on cusp of Minor League baseball title
The Peru Minor League baseball team cruised to a 15-6 victory over Streator in the first game of the District 20 championship series Sunday in Ottawa.
The teams meet again at 6 tonight.
If Peru wins, it takes the district banner, but if Streator wins the teams play again at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Oglesby falls in Little League baseball series
The Oglesby Little League baseball team lost a pair of heartbreakers over the weekend in the District 20 championship series.
On Friday, Streator scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 11-10.
On Saturday, Oglesby led by three runs before Streator smacked a grand slam to win 6-5.
Peru, La Salle to meet for Senior League title
The Peru and La Salle Senior League baseball teams will play tonight in Oglesby with the District 20 Tournament title on the line.
Peru advanced to the title game with a 12-8 win over La Salle on Saturday.
La Salle rebounded from its loss to Peru with a 9-8 victory over Streator in an elimination game Sunday.
Peru and La Salle meet at 6 tonight. If Peru wins, it takes the title, but if La Salle wins the teams meet again at 8 tonight.
La Salle, Mendota win in Minor League softball
The La Salle and Mendota Minor League softball teams are unbeaten in the District 20 Tournament in Peru.
La Salle rolled Oglesby 18-2 on Friday and beat Peru 8-2 on Saturday, while Mendota beat Spring Valley 10-3 on Friday and Bi-County 13-1 on Saturday.
La Salle and Mendota will play at 6 tonight.
In elimination games Sunday, Peru beat Spring Valley 19-12, while Bi-County routed Oglesby 13-2.
Peru and Bi-County meet in an elimination game at 8 tonight.
