Tim Puetz, formerly of Peru, carded 13 birdies in three days in the 54-hole New York Metropolitan section PGA Professional tournament this week, to qualify for the National PGA Professional Tournament, a top honor for club pros.

Puetz, a professional at Siwanoy Country Club north of New York City, finished seventh out of more than 150 pros entered and the 65 who made the cut to play all three rounds. His 13 birdies also finished in a tie for second overall (the player with the most “par breakers” overall had 15) in the section’s tournament at the Tuxedo Club, a difficult private track with a par of 71 but a rating above 74.

The top 11 finishers — not including winner Danny Balin (5-under par), who already had an exemption — qualified for the national tournament for club pros.
