Kane Clendenen, St. Bede

Year: Senior

Position: Infield

Season highlights: The senior was a leader for SBA on and off the field. On the field, he was second in the area with a .435 batting average (37-85) and he was tied for third with 29 runs. He was on the Three Rivers Conference East Division Second Team.

Jimmy DeAngelo, Hall

Year: Senior

Position: Pitcher

Season highlights: The 2019 NewsTribune Baseball Player of the Year ended his prep career in style. He was on all 10 of the area top 10 categories, was a TRC East unanimous selection and made the Class 2A Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team.

James Mautino, HallYear: Senior

Position: Outfield

Season highlights: It was hard to get a ball past the speedy centerfielder, who was a unanimous Three Rivers Conference East Divison selection. Mautino was second in the area in runs scored (39) and stolen bases (30), and was in the top 10 in doubles (seven).

Luke Olson, Putnam County

Year: Junior

Position: Outfield

Season highlights: The right fielder was a key contributor to the Panthers in the field, at the plate and on the mound. Olson hit a home run and seven doubles (both top 10 in the area) and had 42 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings. He was a Tri-County Conference honorable mention.

Payton Plym, Hall

Year: Sophomore

Position: Infield

Season highlights: The sophomore made third base look easy during a regional final against Riverdale as he made four consecutive outs. The plate came easy as well as he is on area leaderboard with a .418 batting average (tied for third) and RBIs (tied for third).

Chance Resetich, Hall

Year: Senior

Position: Infield

Season highlights: Resetich knew how to score runs this season. He finished second in the area with 29 RBIs and tied for sixth with 27 runs scored. He led the area with 12 doubles and was fourth in stolen bases with 19. The shortstop was a second team TRC East Division pick.

Trez Rybarczyk, Hall

Year: Sophomore

Position: Utility

Season highlights: After helping the Red Devils win a Class 2A state championship last year, Rybarczyk became an even bigger piece to the puzzle. The TRC First Team pick threw out numerous base runners and was on all seven offensive area leaderboard categories.

Mateo Sanchez, St. Bede

Year: Senior

Position: Infield

Season highlights: Sanchez had the best batting average in the area at .438 (35-80) and was tied for third with 29 runs scored. The shortstop was a main cog in the Bruins tough defense. He made the Three Rivers Conference East Division Second Team.

Caleb Tonozzi, Putnam County

Year: Senior

Position: Catcher

Season highlights: Tonozzi was a leading reason why the Panthers finished with the second best record in the area at 18-10. The veteran catcher was fifth in the area with a .414 batting average and RBIs with 24. He was an All-Tri-County Conference unanimous selection.

Nolan Whitney, Putnam County

Year: Senior

Position: Outfield

Season highlights: The centerfielder was a key piece to the Panthers’ defense. When he wasn’t chasing down balls in the outfield, the unanimous Tri County Conference selection was making defenses pay as he scored 27 runs and brought in 15 runs.

Colton Yanish, La Salle-Peru

Year: Junior

Position: Pitcher

Season highlights: The St. Bede transfer helped his new team as he was 5-3 on the mound with a 1.81 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings. His strikeouts were second in the area, while his win total was tied for fourth and his ERA was fifth. He helped L-P start 5-0.

Second Team

McKoy Allen, Fieldcrest

Year: Sophomore

Position: Pitcher

Season highlights: The sophomore pitcher took the Heart of Illinois Conference and any non-conference opponent by storm. Allen was in the area top 10 in all three pitching categories and his  67 strikeouts topped all area pitchers.

Caleb Alter, Princeton

Year: Junior

Position: Outfield

Season highlights: Alter was a unanimous All-Three Rivers Conference East Division selection. The junior outfielder had a .344 batting average (21-61), 13 runs, seven RBIs, six doubles and a triple for the Tigers.

Noah Atkinson, Princeton

Year: Junior

Position: Outfield

Season highlights: The Tigers’ outfielder was an extra base hitting machine. Atkinson was on the NT leaderboard with eight doubles (third) and two triples (tied for third). He also had 17 RBIs, 14 runs and 12 stolen bases.

Ben Bernabei, St. Bede

Year: Senior

Position: Utility

Season highlight: Bernabei could do everything as he was a pitcher, a left fielder and a middle of the linuep hitter for SBA. He was on the area leaderboard in RBIs (23), doubles (eight), home runs (one), ERA (2.23) and strikeouts (49).

Tyler Bretsch, Earlville-Leland

Year: Senior

Position: Infield

Season highlights: The first baseman was the first player in the area to hit a home run this season. He was also on the area leaderboard with 25 runs scored and seven doubles. His .358 batting average led the Red Raiders.

Luke Carlson, Putnam County

Year: Senior

Position: Pitcher

Season highlights: The tall, lanky hurler was one of the area’s best this season. Carlson made the area top 10 in all three pitching categories with four wins, a 2.14 ERA and 55 strikeouts. He was a second team Tri-County Conference pick.

Trevor Mooney, St. Bede

Year: Junior

Position: Infield

Season highlights: The Bruin was on first base almost all season long. Defensively, he was part of a strong nucleus and held down first. Offensively, he hit .392 (20-51) and recorded 20 RBIs, which were both top 10 in the area.

Owen Rossler, Princeton

Year: Sophomore

Position: Infield

Season highlights: The first team Three Rivers Conference East Division selection was a top hitter in the conference and in the area. The sophomore had a .407 batting average and two home runs, which are both on the NT leaderboard.

Jakob Pyszka, Putnam County

Year: Junior

Position: Infield

Season highlights: At second base, Pyszka was more than the Panthers could ask for. The junior was strong in the field, was third in the area with 22 stolen bases and was in the top 10 in both runs scored (23) and runs batted in (22).

Brennan Sweeney, Earlville-Leland

Year: Senior

Position: Catcher

Season highlights: The senior was all about scoring runs to help the Red Raiders win this season. The Little Ten Conference unanimous selection had a .486 on base percentage, a .352 batting average, 21 runs scored, 17 RBIs and two home runs.

Cole Wozniak

Year: Junior

Position: Outfielder

Season highlights: Wozniak was a key piece to the Red Devils, which finished 24-7 and made its third straight sectional final. The junior tied for area best in triples (three) and was also on the NT leaderboard with one home run.
