The Mendota Junior League softball team earned a 12-3 victory over La Salle on Tuesday to advance to the District 20 Tournament title game.
Also Tuesday, Bi-County routed Peru 19-3 in an elimination game.
Bi-County and La Salle will play at 6 tonight with the winner advancing to face Mendota at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Peru, Oglesby win in Junior League baseball
The Peru and Oglesby Junior League baseball teams won Tuesday in the District 20 Tournament in Oglesby.
Oglesby routed La Salle 17-1, while Peru defeated Streator 18-8.
Peru plays Ottawa National at 6 tonight with the winner advancing to face Oglesby at 6 p.m. Friday.
Spring Valley and Streator will meet in an elimination game at 8 tonight.
Peru, Oglesby to meet for sub-district title
The Oglesby Minor League baseball team defeated Ottawa American 14-9 in a District 20 American Sub-district Tournament elimination game Tuesday in Peru.
With the win, Oglesby advances to face Peru for the sub-district title at 6 tonight. If Peru wins tonight, it advance to the District 20 title series, but if Oglesby wins, the teams meet again Thursday.
In the National sub-district in Streator, Ottawa National routed Spring Valley 20-4 in an elimination game.
Ottawa National and Streator will battle for a spot in the district title series at 6 tonight. If Streator wins, it advances, but if Ottawa wins, the teams play again Thursday.
L-P offering nutrition presentation
La Salle-Peru High School is playing host to the Taylor Hooten Foundation and its All Me Assembly for student-athletes and their adult influencers Aug. 21 in A.J. Sellett Gymnasium.
There will be a separate session for L-P wrestlers at 5:30 p.m. The general session is at 7 p.m.
While the presentation is geared toward athletics, any L-P student and their guardians are welcome to attend.
The Taylor Hooten Foundation leads a national campaign to educate youth and their adult influencers on proper nutrition and the dangers of loosely regulated dietary supplements, hGH and anabolic steroids.
Knights of Columbus holding golf outing
The Oglesby Knights of Columbus is having its 20th annual golf outing July 27 at Senica’s Deer Park Golf Course.
The event features 18 holes of golf followed by a steak dinner.
Cost is $85 per person for the four-man, best ball tournament.
Sign-in starts at 8:30 a.m. and golf starts at 10 a.m.
Greens fees must be turned in by July 13.
