Nicknames: Mr. Wedekind calls me Ice Man. During baseball season he said that I had ice in my veins because nothing really bothered me when I was pitching.
Superstitions: I wear the same socks every game. At the beginning of the year I wore Duke socks. I wasn’t doing very good so I changed them (to Nike blue socks) then I started doing good so I kept those.
Favorite sports memory: Sophomore year we went 22-0, that was awesome, and going back here playing with them again and going this far is awesome, too.
If you could spend a day with any famous athlete, who would it be and why?: I’d probably pick J.J. Reddick. He’s an awesome shooter and probably my favorite college basketball player because he’s just amazing and Duke is my favorite team.
What do you want to be when you grow up?: I’d like to be a P.E. teacher or a police office. I’m not sure yet.
Last week’s achievements: In the Class 2A Princeton Regional semifinals, Murray hit 7-of-10 shots to score 18 points in a 63-40 win over Bureau Valley. He also grabbed six rebounds. In the Tigers’ 59-39 victory over Riverdale in the regional final, Murray scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Murray on his performance: I thought I played pretty well. Shots weren’t going down. I fought through it and we ended up with a victory.
Coach Jesse Brandt says: Michael attacked the basket really well. He was good defensively, but offensively he really attacked the rim. He hit the offensive glass. He was just the man on the offensive boards.
