Peter P. Shurman, 89, of Loves Park died at 10:45 p.m. Sept. 26, 2009, in his home.
Service with full military honors will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Field of Honor, Loves Park.
Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., Loves Park, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shurman was born June 14, 1920, in Peru to John and Sophie (Kotecki) Shurman. He married Edith B. Casford on Aug. 1, 1942, in Peru.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was employed by F. W. Means. He had played semipro baseball for the Ladd Merchants and Providence (R.I.) Chiefs.
He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and Loves Park VFW Post 9759.
Survivors are four sons, Peter, Marc, Bruce and Christopher Shurman; one daughter, Linda Bryce; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Smoron; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, David.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
