LaVerne E. "Wernie" Foote, 91, of Tonica died at 6:40 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009, at home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hurst Funeral Home, Tonica. The Rev. Oscar Sheppard, pastor of Christ Family Four Square Church, La Salle, will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Tonica, with full military services by Tonica American Legion.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. Saturday until services begin in the funeral home.
Mr. Foote was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Tonica to Elmer and Ethel (Harn) Foote. He married Frances Ebner on Feb. 28, 1946, in Tonica.
He was a farmer and bus driver for many years. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army for 42 months, mostly as a medic in Africa. He was a member of Christ Family Four Square Church. He graduated in 1936 from Tonica High School.
Survivors are one son, Duane (Lois) Foote of Tonica; one daughter, Dorene (Larry) Giltner of Tonica; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Martin of Columbia, Mo.; and one brother, George Foote of McNabb.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers; and one sister.
Pallbearers will be James, Duane Jr. and Jeffrey Foote, Daniel Maack, Kevin Lafferty and Brian Ford.
Memorials may be directed to the family or Tonica Ambulance and Fire Department.
