Edward F. Pondinas Sr., 85 of Peru died at 10:15 a.m. Oct. 2, 2009, in Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Shimkus-Helmer-Staab Funeral Home, La Salle, with Deacon Bob Beltramini officiating. Burial will be at St. Vincent's Cemetery, La Salle.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home. La Salle-Oglesby Veteran's Memorial Group will accord full military rites.
He was born on June 8, 1924, in Bridgeport, Ill., to Dominik and Petronele (Ercius) Pundinus. He married Lorraine (Coughlin) on Dec. 30, 1948, in Berwyn.
He was the safety director at Illinois Valley Community College until retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific.
He is survived by three sons, Daniel Pondinas of Peru; Edward (Lisa) Pondinas Jr. of La Salle and Anthony (Karen) Pondinas of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; one daughter, Kathleen (Dwayne) Sanchez of Prosper, Texas; two grandchildren; and one brother, Anthony (Angie) Pondinas of St. John's, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1990, one grandson, one sister and one brother.
