Waterstreet Pub, the tavern along the Illinois River in Peru, has announced it will be permanently closing. “Waterstreet has been my dream since I sat there at 5 years old and talked to my grandfather day after day,” according to the post.
The building will be going up for sale along with most of the interior contents according to Waterstreet on Facebook.
Outpourings of sadness and support from the community came in to the tavern’s Facebook page as the public remembered Waterstreet fondly. This morning, owner Russ Guynn said did not wish to comment on the closure at this time.
