Starved Rock State Park in partnership with GSUSA and Girl Scouts of Central Illinois will host the first “Girl Scouts Love State Parks” event 9:30 a.m.-noon today at the Starved Rock Visitor Center and Eagles Roost Cabin.

This will be an annual event hosted nationwide between state parks and their local Girl Scout councils. Starved Rock was expecting 250 Girl Scouts plus their family members at the event.

They will meet with mascots including Sadie the Starved Rock Eagle and Smokey Bear 9:30-11:30 a.m. There will be a Junior Ranger Badge Program, a scavenger hunt, the showing of two films, guided hikes to Starved Rock and French Canyon, Illinois Department of Natural Resources educational activities behind the visitor center, presentations by engineers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and master gardeners and more.
