The historic taproom will continue to be preserved after receiving a facade grant from the City of La Salle.
Monday night during a city council meeting, the council approved a request from Patti Hall, owner of Rudy’s Liquors Inc., 285 Chartres St., for a facade grant totaling $12,500.
Philip Garbe who lives in the 700 block of Fourth Street, thanked the city for the storm drain work that was completed at the corner of Fourth…
Before the meeting in an interview, Hall said the Taproom was built in 1906 and served as such until 1972 but under different owners.
The grant money will go toward the brick being restored on portions of the Taproom, she said. The bricks will be repaired and put back.
“We’re doing our best to preserve it,” she said.
Rudy’s Liquors opened the Taproom up again in 2016.
Hall said they want to get the building on the National Register of Historic places; they went through the Illinois process successfully in 2016 but haven’t started on the national one.
