Peru police are asking residents to keep an eye out for people attempting ruse burglaries.

Three men approached a home in the neighborhood south of Hy-Vee around noon Wednesday posing as city employees, Hocking said. The husband was asked to come outside and look at a fence while the wife was asked to run hot water. While the homeowners were occupied, a third suspect rummaged through the home in search of cash, Hocking said.
Peru police are still investigating the incident and following up with neighbors. As of right now, there was no description on the vehicle they were driving.
Hocking reminded homeowners to ask for identification if a city employee were to come to your door.
“They should have ID’s on them and a city vehicle,” he said.
