MENDOTA — Matthew D. McPheeters, 38, of 111 S. 13th Ave., Mendota has been charged with battery following an incident that was initially reported as a shooting at 3:05 a.m. Sunday, according to Mendota police.
Police chief Greg Kellen released a statement that the victim originally reported that he had been shot in the face with a firearm. Responding officers found no evidence of a gunshot wound or that a firearm had been discharged but there were signs of bodily harm found.
Following an investigation into the incident, McPheeters was charged with battery. The case remains open.
