LOSTANT — Mitch McCaw, village water operator, recommended that Lostant seek to upgrade its high service pumps to variable speed drive models, now that one of their pumps failed and needs to be replaced. Variable speed drive pumps will adjust pumping levels based on demand, ultimately saving the village money in operating costs overall. He will gather estimates for the board’s consideration.

Additionally, McCaw noted that significant amounts of water run-off enter the village sewer system during heavy periods of rainfall. He recommended that this matter be explored by first tracing the flow of water off the grade school building using dye.

Water issues: Also Monday, Immel reported that the village cannot extend the bond to pay for the new water tower to 30 years. Consequently, the term shall be 25 years at $1,800 per month. In that the village has only two monthly payments of $2,000 each remaining on the engineering portion of the project, he expressed confidence in the village’s ability to meet this obligation.

Rules reminder: Also, Immel will send out a letter this month to village residents detailing information about next month’s dog registration, reminding them that only cardboard and plastic can be recycled, and notifying them of a future date for golf cart registration — to ensure these carts meet basic requirements for safe operation.

Trees: Various village trees have been identified that need to be cut down — trustee Mike Cooper will seek estimates to have this done and report back to the board.
