Over the noon hour today, Peru police were sorting out facts after a van went on a wild ride on and off a two-block path before striking porch steps and flipping over on its top.
As of 12:15 p.m., police, Peru firefighters and Peru ambulance workers still were at 2510 Market St., where a red van was upside down in the driveway, with a missing wheel and tire resting against the concrete front steps it struck after sliding half a block through front yards near Market and Church streets.
Two blocks to the east, also along the south side of Market Street, Peru electric department and Comcast cable workers were working, because the van may have sheared off a utility pole.
Police were questioning the suspected driver of the van in the 2500 block of Market Street. Firefighters remained on the scene while awaiting a tow truck because the van was leaking fuel.
