Spring Valley Elementary’s preschool program is as good as gold.

At Wednesday night’s meeting, the school board recognized faculty and staff for earning the Gold Circle of Quality through the Illinois State Board of Education and ExceleRate Illinois.

“It’s the first time the district has had a gold rating for the entire program in our history,” said principal Shelly Nauman.

The rating recognizes early education programs that meet and exceed benchmarks in 15 different categories. Nauman said the rating is valid for the next three years and then the program will be reassessed. At that time, the district will have to show more growth and progress to keep the gold rating.

Nauman also thanked the numerous people involved in the program for helping achieve the rating.

She thanked JFK staff members Penny Redshaw, Jessica Lannen, Lynette Lucas, Linda Delao, Corri Heiden, Michelle Villarreal, Mary Beth Miklavcic, Kim Shilkuski, Theresa Craig and Carol Flaherty. She also thanked Putnam County’s primary principal Ronda Cross and pre-K teacher Michelle Edens for providing guidance.
