MENDOTA — A nonprofit group, Michael’s Battle Buddies, are hosting a benefit next month for a 17-year-old Mendota High School student and Boy Scout who is battling cancer.
Michael Heiting has had three surgeries so far and is being treated in Peoria. He has five-hour treatments six days per week every three weeks. The treatments began in March, and he has been sick and needed to stay in the hospital at times.
His mother, Holly, and father, Sam, have been by Michael’s side through his battle, according to fundraiser organizers Michelle Tonozzi Spayer and Kim Baird.
Michael’s Battle Buddies will host a benefit 1-6 p.m. July 14 at the Mendota Elks Club, 707 Indiana Ave., Mendota. The admission cost is a $10 donation at the door.
Food, DJ, raffle items, a 50/50 drawing and silent auction items will be available.
