A worker died after falling from a billboard Saturday afternoon.

Damien E. Glasgow, 42, of Bartlett was identified this morning by the La Salle County Coroner’s Office as the man who died.

Marseilles Fire Chief Mick Garrison said the man worked for a company that installs billboards. He and another man were working on a billboard in the middle of a cornfield between Ottawa and Marseilles. The sign is about a quarter mile off of Interstate 80 near N. 30th Road.

Garrison said the man lost his footing and fell about 30 feet to the ground, according to the witness at the scene.

“He was an experienced person,” Garrison said. “He had been doing this job for about 20 years.”

Marseilles fire and ambulance received the call about 1 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at about 3 p.m. by a deputy coroner.

La Salle County Sheriff’s Office and coroner’s office will continue to investigate the accident.
