The way things are set up this year, Illinois Valley residents could chart a course to see many displays on various evenings in late June and early July.

Saturday, June 29

Spring Valley: For the second year, Spring Valley Summerfest activities on Saturday include a fireworks display at Hall High School’s football stadium at dusk. City park board president Tony Mautino said donations from the community have provided enough for a strong show this year. The Summerfest takes place Friday and Saturday at Kirby Park, just southeast of Hall High.

Mendota: Celebration is 5-10 p.m. at Lake Mendota park. Food, bounce houses, and lots of other kids activities. Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. and synchronized to music.

Wednesday, July 3

Peru: Fourth of July celebration, Wednesday, July 3, on Water Street (dependent on river level), with music to the east of Pike Street and a family area with bouncy houses farther east, toward the bridge. (Rain date July 4)

Streator: Fireworks will be around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 with viewing at the Streator High School athletic field, following the 7 p.m. Red, White, Blue, and You Talent Competition.

Thursday, July 4

Princeton: The city’s annual fireworks show will take place at dusk at Zearing Park.

Hennepin: Daytime events traditionally include a bags tournament, car cruise in Bassi Park east of the courthouse, concerts in front of the courthouse, food vendors and water fights. Fireworks will be at dusk along the river front.

Henry: Along with Thursday’s fireworks, events will include a carnival July 1-4; parade at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 4 with line up by 1:30 p.m. at the school, 201 Richards St.

Ottawa: Fireworks will be 9 p.m. Thursday, July 4, with viewing from the high school football stadium

Friday, July 5

Utica: The village will hold its Independence Day celebration starting at 5 p.m. Friday, July 5 at Carey Memorial Park. Fireworks begin at dusk. Families can enjoy free food and beverages (while supplies last) plus face painting, bounce slides and obstacle courses and more.

Sunday, July 7

Walnut: Fireworks cap off Walnut Days, which are July 5-7. Walnut Days activities range from bingo games, softball and poker tournaments to a pedal pull and duck races.

LA SALLE, OGLESBY

La Salle and Oglesby completed fireworks displays at recent city festivals.
