St. Bede Academy and Illinois Wesleyan graduate Bucky Emmerling (left), from Spring Valley and now in Dublin, Ireland, portrays a British soldier raiding a home in Northern Ireland in a short film under production called “Troubled Times.” Says Emmerling, “I was merely a featured extra… It’s about the troubles in Northern Ireland. Shooting has finished, but the film won’t be shown until the fall as far as I know.” For Emmerling since Christmas, his acting work mainly has revolved around an actual-play Dungeons and Dragons live show titled “Roll for Legends.” It’s produced by his theatre company Charisma Check, for which he is the technical director. He’s a lighting designer/technician, and makes a living as well as a general stage carpenter/tech. Since Christmas he has done lighting design for seven shows, most of them at the Smock Alley Theatre and worked as a carpenter on a few productions in The Gate Theatre.
