Report: Truck driver had medical issue before accident at Tonica

A truck driver experienced a medical emergency before a traffic accident Monday that drew a response from Tonica Volunteer Fire and Ambulance and Illinois State Police, emergency responders leaned when they arrived at the scene.

According to Tonica fire department, emergency personnel were told the northbound semi had gone off of the northbound lanes of Interstate 39 west of Tonica at 11:55 a.m. Monday and came to a stop in a waterway on the east edge of the interstate highway right of way.

The driver was transported to Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru.

Tonica firefighters departed from the scene about an hour, and towing services remained at the scene.
