Celebrating Earth Day, an estimated 30 volunteers participated in Operation Clean Sweep by picking up trash Monday along U.S. 6 west of Ottawa. The volunteers cleanup for 3 hours on the north and south sides of U.S. 6.
“If I’m being totally honest, I was about 50/50, but then after speaking with [Chief Sarah Raymond], I think this is a need,” Mayor Ken Kolowski said. “It’s needed for the city of Peru for the safety of our citizens and for our officers.”
A handful of 4-H members from clubs across La Salle County assembled at the 4H Fairgrounds in Ottawa to plant 25 oak trees as part of the 4-H Green Communities Tree Program.
