The first newspaper in La Salle-Peru-Oglesby area was the Standard, started in La Salle in 1851. In 1858 three weeklies were started in Peru. In 1891, W.T. Bedford started publication of the Tribune, a daily newspaper in La Salle. In 1901, the Tribune was sold and the new owners changed the name to the Daily Post. In 1925, D. W. Grandon bought the Daily Post and, in 1926, he purchased the Tribune and merged the two into the Post-Tribune.

In 1946, Mr. & Mrs. Peter Miller purchased the Peru News-Herald and shortly after also purchased the La Salle Post-Tribune. In 1946 these papers were merged into the Daily News-Tribune.
