NewsTribune Athlete of the Week: Ashton Kellett

Year: Senior

Sport: Wrestling

Do you have any nicknames? Happy.

Do you have any superstitions? I don’t have any when it comes to wrestling. I believe hard work makes you come out on top over any superstition.

If you could only listen to one band/artist the rest of your life, who would it be? G Herbo.

Besides wrestling season, what do you like about winter? The holidays around Christmas and New Years.

If you could get advice from anyone, who would it be? It would have to be coach (Mark) Siebert), coach (Ed) Wrobs (Wrobleski). They have been around to see a thing or two and to know a thing or two — not just in wrestling but in life as well.

What super power would you want to have? It would have to be the ability to have use of 100 percent of my brain.

What is a movie you never get tired of watching? ‘Scarface’ or ‘Pulp Fiction.’

Last week’s accomplishments: Kellett went 7-0 on the week with dual wins against Rock Island and Sandwich before winning his bracket at the Mahomet-Seymour Tournament.

Kellett on his performance: Last week was the best I have felt in my wrestling career at L-P in my cardio, technicality, strength and perseverance. I’m starting to peak at the right time of the season, but at the same time this is just a stepping stone for the end of the season and the ultimate goal of getting back down on the State Farm Center floor and finishing on the podium to cap off my career.

Coach Ed Wrobleski says: Ashton had an incredibly good week. He beat two ranked opponents during the week and won a very tough Mahomet-Seymour Tournament. Ashton has really dedicated himself and put in a lot of work this year and it’s starting to pay off.
