It was a historic night for the Fieldcrest girls basketball team on Thursday.
Behind 12 points from Alyx Carls, the No. 4-seeded Knights defeated No. 9 El Paso-Gridley 32-29 in a Heart of Illinois Conference/McLean County Tournament semifinal to advance to the title game for the first time in program history.
It also was coach Mitch Neally’s 100th career victory in his fifth season. He owns a 100-43 career record.
Ella Goodrich scored nine points and Ashlyn May added seven points for Fieldcrest (22-3), which will face No. 2 Eureka at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan University.
The three-time defending champion Hornets (20-5) advanced with a 53-33 win over No. 6 Fisher.

Rhiannon Skoog poured in 33 points Thursday to lead the Lady Cavaliers to an Interstate Eight Conference win in Plano.
