BRIEFS: IVCC women's basketball tops South Suburban

La Salle-Peru graduate Aubrie Roda and Putnam County alumna Presley Hatton each scored 18 points Saturday to lead the IVCC women’s basketball team to a 74-70 victory in a non-conference game in South Holland, Ill.

Hall graduate Gabby Englehaupt added 11 points for the Eagles (7-7).

IVCC men lose to South Suburban

Four IVCC men’s basketball players scored in double figures Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles lost 79-63 to South Suburban in a non-conference game in South Holland, Ill.

Jacarr Boone led IVCC (7-12) with 16 points. Joey Murphy scored 15 points, Tyler Rodgers had 14 points and DePue graduate Rahim Strong added 10 points.

L-P holding Hall of Honor ceremonies

The second class will be inducted into the La Salle-Peru Hall of Honor next weekend.

The class will be introduced at about 6:45 p.m. prior to the varsity boys basketball game against Ottawa. There will be an induction ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday at Matthiessen Auditorium. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

The 2019 class includes Sue Marshall, Robert “Bo” Windy, Gary Windy, the 2008 volleyball team, Dr. Gary Novak, the 1978 football team, Dr. Melvin Pontious, Howard Fellows, Dr. Elizabeth Small and Dr. Thomas McCormack.

L-P cheerleaders holding fundraiser

The La Salle-Peru cheerleading program will hold its Cheer with a Mouthful fundraiser from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday in the cafeteria.

Tickets are $7 and include BBQ sandwich or hot dog, chips, drink and a dessert. A container of BBQ is $10.

Tickets can be purchased from L-P cheerleaders.

YMCA offering youth basketball programs

The Illinois Valley YMCA is offering multiple youth basketball opportunities.

There is a youth recreational basketball league for children ages 5-9.

Organization day is Jan. 18 and games begin Jan. 25 and run seven weeks.

Ages 5-7 will play from 10-11 a.m., and ages 8-9 will play from 11 a.m. to noon. There is practice one day per week.

Fee is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.

Rimball for children ages 3-4 runs 9-9:45 a.m. on Saturdays from Jan. 25 to Feb. 29.

Fee is $20 for members and $30 for non-members.
