Life Flight helicopter called to Interstate 39 crash

Area fire departments responded to an accident with a serious injury as well as a travel-trailer fire, both occurring after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Wenona and Lostant firefighters and emergency medical technicians, as well as Illinois State Police District 8 responded to a two-vehicle accident just south of the La Salle-Marshall County Line.

Two people received injuries when a van slammed into the rear of a semitrailer.

The truck driver was transported from the scene by ambulance, and a Life Flight helicopter was called for the driver of the van.

Mendota firefighters were called about a fire on Interstate 80 about two miles north of Troy Grove. The brakes on one of the rear wheels of a travel trailer heated up and caught fire, said full-time firefighter Terry Eutis. Truck drivers stopped and used fire extinguishers to prevent the fire from spreading, Eutis said.

He said the rear of the trailer was scorched and firefighters had to tear off some skirting to completely extinguish the fire.
